Located in the town of Malalcahuello and Lonquimay in the AraucanÃa Region. The Lonquimay Volcano is of the stratovolcano type, with a cone of pyroclastic fluids. Its twin volcano, the Tolhuaca volcano, although lower in height, is larger and has a larger area. It is also part of a set of national reserves due to its large extensions of Araucaria, Hualle, Lenga, Coigue forests, among others, making up the Malalcahuello National Reserve and the Nalcas National Reserve, which offer tourist routes and a ski center in Corralco sector. The volcano has had three recorded eruptions in written history, the first one in 1887, the second in January 1933, being parallel to that of the Llaima volcano, and the most recent, which occurred on December 25, 1988 and gave rise to to the Navidad Crater (named after the date on which the volcanic event occurred).
This beautiful volcano has a height of 2,865 meters at sea level and its ascension takes approximately 5 hours, a normal physical condition is required.
